Cambridge United's youth development programmes engaged over 400 young players during the recent October half-term break. The club's Boys Elite, Girls, and Development Centres hosted camps and competitive fixtures across multiple venues, providing vital grassroots opportunities while the first team handles its League One campaign.

The Boys Elite Centre saw 313 players invited to participate in two fixture programmes against Chelsea and Luton Town, with two players earning Academy representation opportunities. More than 400 sign-ups were recorded for the October Football Camps held at Chesterton, Swavesey, Comberton, and Linton venues. Eight players from the Cambridge United men's first team visited these camps, offering direct mentorship to the next generation.

Competitive Fixtures Showcase Progress

Youth teams demonstrated their development in high-level matches against professional clubs. The Boys Development Programme fielded 161 players in fixtures against Ipswich Town, Chelsea, and Colchester United. A separate camp at Linton and Hinchingbrooke engaged 32 outfield players and 37 goalkeepers. The U16 Boys Elite Centre squad reached the final of a club-hosted Academy Identification Tournament, while the Emerging Talent Centre U15 squad traveled to Wigan for a national competition.

Girls' football was also a major focus. The Girls Elite Centre held fixtures, and daily Football Camps attracted over 25 attendees each day. Participants had the chance to meet Women's First Team player Abbie Jackson and receive Player of the Day awards. The Girls Development Centre hosted fixtures at Northstowe, where the U13 side secured a hard-earned single-goal victory against Ipswich. The club noted all participants represented Cambridge United with pride, determination, and resilience.

Younger age groups were introduced to new formats, with U10 and U12 players taking part in their first futsal fixtures in Cambridge, supported by Elite Centre players. The U10s delivered strong performances against Chelsea and Colchester, and the U16s put in an excellent display against Chelsea.

The half-term activities concluded with preparations for the upcoming Christmas camps, scheduled for 21 and 22 December at Chesterton and Comberton venues. This sustained academy effort provides a key pipeline for the club's future, complementing the first team's current push in League One. Cambridge United sit eighth in the table with 21 points from 14 games, and they face a tough next fixtures test away to fourth-placed Luton on 14 November.
