Cambridge United's promotion-winning captain Michael Morrison is leaving the club after 21 years. He made 247 appearances for the U's in his two spells. Morrison began his career with Cambridge, coming through the academy and making his debut as a 17-year-old in October 2005. He went on to make 115 appearances for the club before moving to Leicester City, where he won promotion from League One in 2008-09. A spell at Sheffield Wednesday followed before a three-and-a-half season stint with Charlton Athletic, where he again won promotion into the Championship in 2011-12. Morrison had further moves to Birmingham City, Reading and Portsmouth, returning to Cambridge in January 2023. Although relegated with the U's to League Two last season, he featured 17 times this term as the club, leading the promotion celebrations as their final-day draw against Crewe sealed third spot and a place back in the third tier.
