Cambridge United boss Neil Harris has praised the early impact of former Everton youngster Isaac Heath, who made an impressive debut in the 2-1 victory over Barnet in the League Cup. Heath, who joined the U's from Premier League side Everton for an undisclosed fee earlier in the summer, scored the winning goal in the match. Harris said: "You can see straight away, he looks like a modern way footballer and winger. He likes to get in the pockets, he likes to go out wide, and he likes to swivel past people. But the lad runs as well, and that's probably from his upbringing at a Scouse football club that demands of you, which is great for us, because he's been taught really well." Heath's intervention came quickly on the back of an equaliser from Ben Knight, who scored an impressive 11 goals last term. Harris added: "It (scoring a goal) was important for both of them. We saw last year it's important that our mavericks, or the 10s as I call them, get a goals return. We saw it with SK (Sullay Kaikai) last year, we saw it with Ben as well. They were influential players for us, and it's going to have to be the same this year. Isaac falls into that category, Glenn McConnell also falls into that category, and Callum Stead when he's fit. They've got to find numbers – goals and assists – and they've got to win set-plays for us to put in the box." Next fixture: vs Barnsley (at home, 2027-01-16).
