Cambridge United's home form will be crucial to their success in League One this season, according to boss Neil Harris. Replicating last season's results at the Cledara Abbey Stadium will be tough, but Harris believes that results at home will go a long way in determining how successful his newly-promoted side are in the league.

What happened?

Cambridge United lost just twice in the league last season, racking up a joint division-high 51 points on their own patch alongside champions Bromley. They finished 16th in the league, but their home form was a key factor in their promotion push.

Why it matters for Cambridge United

Harris is well aware of the momentum that can be gathered from positive results at home. He said, "I don't want to say too much because if you get beat in your first home game, that kills you! But we lost quite early on at home last year to Oldham in a frustrating manner. We lost early on, but we still went on a fantastic run."

What comes next?

Ahead of Saturday's season-opening visit from Wigan Athletic, Harris is looking to replicate last season's home form. He said, "There's no getting away from it, and I will talk about it a lot, for us to be successful – whatever success looks like in people's eyes – we're going to have to be strong at home. We're not going to win every game at home, and we might lose a couple more than we did last year, but we have to set our stall out."

Recent form

Cambridge United are currently on a 2-game winning run, with a recent form of 3W-1D-1L (WWDWL). They have scored 66 goals this season, conceding 33, and are 5 points behind leaders Bromley in the title race.

Next fixture

Their next fixture is against Bromley away on August 22, which will be a tough test for the team. Harris is aware of the challenge ahead, saying, "Gary Caldwell's men will arrive in Cambridgeshire looking to bounce back from their first-round Carabao Cup exit when they were beaten 6-5 on penalties by Barnsley after playing out a 1-1 draw at Oakwell."

Injury update

A late decision will be made on Sullay Kaikai's availability for the game, but Gassan Ahadme, George Hoddle, and Callum Stead have all been ruled out with injuries.
